Holy Qur’an is the most sacred book for Muslims, bestowed to them by Allah Almighty as their Scripture; in fact, the last one of them ever to be graced to humanity for the purpose of guiding them to the ways of Allah (SWT).
That is why Muslims greatly respect Qur’an and Quran education is deemed as one of the primal religious obligations to all Muslims. The truth is that Muslims pay great respect to Qur’an and not only learn to read and write it, but also take it as a great honor to memorize it in all its totality; an honor that no other book of such great volume other than Quran enjoys.

Though people of all ages are free to memorize it, but mostly, it is during childhood that most people end up learning and memorizing Quran, comprising of more than 6000 verses containing purest and knowledgeable words of Allah Almighty.
The important thing is that it not only serves to fulfill a religious obligation and Sunnah (an act that Prophet Muhammad PBUH did himself), but it also serves for great benefits of the ones who do so, as mentioned in the following hadith:
“On the Day of Qiyaamah a crown of such brilliance will be placed on the heads of the parents of one who learnt the Qur’aan and practised on its laws, that its glitter will outshine the brilliance of the sun which penetrates your houses. What then do you think will be the position of the one who himself learnt the Qur’aan and acted in accordance with it?” (Ahmad and Abu Dawood)
While memorizing, Quran Recitation also plays very important, as memorization of such a lengthy content is not possible without practice, and recitation serves as the best means of practicing what one has learnt of Quran. That is why Muslims who are Hafidh (the one who memorizes Qur’an), also happen to be extremely good in recitation of Qur’an as well.
May Allah bless all Muslim parents with pious and obedient offspring who are eager to learn and memorize the words of Allah Almighty as in Qur’an.
