Islam is the religion that re taught humanity the lessons of love, peace, brotherhood, indiscrimination, and mutual respect, long forgotten by the rotted social structure that prevailed in almost all the societies due to getting strayed from the true teachings of God. Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and the Holy Quran are the two sources that God descended upon our Ummah to pull us back from the darkness of ignorance and misfortune.

The concept of Islamic School helped a great deal in that great revival. The first ever Islamic School could be considered the one which Holy Prophet (PBUH) raised comprising of his fellows termed as “Ashaab e Suffah” who had the honor of living their lives in the company of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) devoted to studying and teaching Quran and other Islamic values.

Learning, reading and understanding is greatly encouraged by God Almighty and encouraged in Islamic ways of life. In fact, the first verse that revealed upon Holy Prophet (PBUH) stated:

“Read: In the name of thy Lord who created man from a clot.Read: And they Lord is the Most Generous Who taught by the pen, Taught man that which he knew not.” Surah Al-Alaq, 96:1-5

Ever since then Islamic School system has served to spread the holiness of Islam to all the nooks and corners of the world, and till date Islamic School system marks the base line of emanating not only the Quranic knowledge but other disciplines of knowledge as well to spread the knowledge of Islam all across the globe. Therefore, the role of Islamic School system is never to be undermined in propagation of Islam universally.

Al-Baqara [2:2] This is the book (the Quran), whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are Al-Muttaqûn [the pious and righteous persons who fear Allâh much (abstain from all kinds of sins and evil deeds which He has forbidden) and love Allâh much (perform all kinds of good deeds which He has ordained)].

And

Al-Baqara [2:231] …..He sent down to you the book and Wisdom, for your instruction. And fear Allah and know that Allah is well acquainted with all things.

What is Iman and its Characteristics

2010
07.30

Quran online“Iman is an Islamic term usually translated as belief or faith and is often used to refer to the strength of conviction in a Muslim” and a Mu’min is who has a belief in the unseen. There are five pillars of Iman, first is Allah(SWT) one has to believe in Oneness of Allah, second is His Angels, third is His Messengers / Prophets, fourth is His Books/Scriptures, fifth is the Day of Judgment and the Akhirah or after life, sixth is Predestination. For further clarification we can read Quran online and following is the Hadith which tells us the characteristics of Iman.

Book 1, Number 0004:

Abu Huraira reported: “One day the Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) appeared before the public that a man came to him and said: Prophet of Allah, (tell me) what is Iman. Upon this he (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you affirm your faith in Allah, His angels, His Books, His meeting, His Messengers and that you affirm your faith in the Resurrection hereafter. He (again) said: Messenger of Allah, (tell me) what does al-Islam signify. He (the Holy Prophet) replied: Al-Islam signifies that you worship Allah and do not associate anything with Him and you establish obligatory prayer and you pay the obligatory poor-rate (Zakat) and you observe the fast of Ramadan. He (the inquirer) again said: Messenger of Allah, what does al-Ihsan imply ? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you worship Allah as if you are seeing Him, and in case you fail to see Him, then observe prayer (with this idea in your mind) that (at least) He is seeing you. He (the inquirer ) again said: Messenger of Allah, when would there be the hour (of Doom) ? He (the Holy Prophet) replied: The one who is asked about it is no better informed than the inquirer. I, however, narrate some of its signs (and these are): when the slave-girl will give birth to he master, when the naked, barefooted would become the chiefs of the people – these are some of the signs of (Doom). (Moreover) when the shepherds of the black (camels) would exult themselves in buildings, this is one of the signs of (Doom). (Doom) is one of the five (happenings wrapped in the unseen) which no one knows but Allah. Then he (the Messenger of Allah) recited (the verse) : “Verily Allah! with Him alone is the knowledge of the hour and He it is Who sends (down the rain) and knows that which is in the wombs and no person knows whatsoever he shall earn tomorrow, and a person knows not in whatsoever land he shall die. Verily Allah is Knowing, Aware . He (the narrator, Abu Huraira) said: Then the person turned back and went away. The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: Bring that man back to me. They (the Companions of the Holy Prophet present there) went to bring him back, but they saw nothing there. Upon this the Messenger of Allah remarked: he was Gabriel, who came to teach the people their religion”. Here is a post one can gain information about Importance of knowledge in the of Hadith.
